Tips & Suggestions
|
| Selling
Merchandise: |
 |
Check
Out The Competition:
Check the competition. Do a google search to see how many
other sites are selling what you want to sell. Check their pricing.
Can you compete? Examine their websites. Do they look professional
or amateurish? Look for SEO techniques they may use.
|
 |
Inventory:
If you're selling products online, customers expect a quick delivery.
You'll have to ensure you stock adequate inventory or can quickly
restock.
|
 |
Drop
Shippers And Packaged Storefronts:
There are websites out there offering to do drop shipping for you.
That means you advertise the goods, they stock and ship them -- virtually
no work for you. And there are companies which even offer to provide
the website. Be sure to carefully read the terms of their agreements.
There are sometimes minimum monthly charges. If you don't sell enough
to cover the charges, you'll actually lose money..
|
 |
Minimum Clicks Or Percent of Sales:
Commission Junction penalizes webmasters whose websites don't generate
sales in six months (check their policy for updates). Other advertisers
or affiliate networks may have similar penalties, so be sure to read
the fine print in their agreements.

 |
Professional-Looking Website:
Your website is your company image, and it's important it look professional
to help instill a sense of trust. Many people say they can build a
website but some of those websites look amateurish. See the "websites"
section at the Links page.
|
 |
Arrange
to accept credit cards:
A number of websites offer merchant accounts to allow you to accept
credit cards. Fees vary. See "accepting
credit cards" section at the Links page. |
| |
|
| Pushing
Content - Revenue From Ads: |
 |
Content
Is Key:
Your site will have to contain stuff which will attract
an interest people. It should also make them want to return. It could
be something you are very familiar with, or it could be a directory
of businesses, or product reviews, or lifestyle...or whatever people
may find interesting.. |
 |
Go
For The Niche:
The web is saturated with material. You may be able to
attract more traffic if you focus on a specific niche. For example,
if it's about carpentry, you may focus on a specific subset of carpentry
-- such as "trim carpentry" or "cabinet carpentry"
rather than the big global topic of "carpentry". |
 |
Use
Affiliate Ads:
There are a number of affiliate program websites where
you can select from many different types of ads to include at your
website. See "affiliate" section
of Links page for links to some affiliate programs. Some websites
may also offer their own affiliate programs. |
 |
Monitor
Your Web Log:
Regularly check your web log to see where people are coming
from and what they searched for to get there. It can help you fine-tune
your content and better optimize your pages for better search engine
placement. |
 |
Redirect
Your Traffic:
If you publish several websites, include links from one
to the others. It will help redirect visitors to your other sites
and it will also help with your SEO (Search Engine Optimization). |
|
|
| Marketing: |
| It
will help with traffic if your website link is posted in as many places
on the web as possible. Important: Don't overdo it. If you post too
many links at websites, it's considered spamming and may get you banned
or blocked. Worse: You could appear on a spammer watch list. |

 |
Social media
(Facebook, Twitter, Google +1, etc.):
You can make posts with links to draw traffic to
your site. Don't overdo it or people will tune
you out. |
 |
Social Media buttons
(Facebook "like" button,
Google +1 button, Tweet button): If you include
them
at your website, they
allow visitors to quickly and
easily tell others about your site. Here's a
site with
some information. Or search Google for
"add social media links to my site".

|

| How
you handle your customers is very important. Treat them well and they'll
tell others and they will also return. |
 |
