Ads provide revenue.
A common source for ads: Affiliate networks,
where you can find ads to put on your site.
How
Affiliate Advertising Works:
The advertiser puts ad links at the affiliate website.
The affiliate website
provides links to you and keeps a record of hits from your
site to the advertisers.
Your website
contains links to advertiser site (via affiliate website)
Visitor to
your website clicks on link which goes via affiliate website
to the advertiser's website
Some websites
run their own affiliate network, keep records of hits you send them,
and pay you money. Others use an affiliate network. With the affiliate
network, there's a third party involved to keep everybody honest.
Types
Of Payments:
Most advertisers pay based on either Pay Per Click (PPC) or as a percentage
of sales. Pay per click might be anywhere from a few cents to a few
dollars per click. Percentage of sales might be 5% to 70%, depending
on what's being sold.
Payment:
There's often a minimum dollar amount you must reach before payment
is sent to you. It could be $50 or $100 or more. Payment might be
made by sending you a check or depositing it in your PayPal account
or an electronic transfer to your bank account. Sometimes a small
amount is withheld for possible refunds -- and paid to you later.
Minimum Clicks Or Percent of Sales:
Commission Junction penalizes webmasters whose websites don't generate
sales in six months (check their policy for updates). Other advertisers
or affiliate networks may have similar penalties, so be sure to read
the fine print in their agreements..
Google Adsense:
You've seen google adsense ads everywhere on the web (there are some
here, on the right). Google's adsense is generally a pay per click
program. Clicks may pay anywhere from a few cents to several dollars
each.
The
secret of success: If you're going to make money from ads, you need traffic
-- lots of traffic. The more traffic, the more money you'll make.
So YOUR objective is go get as much traffic to your site as possible.
