About This Website's Publisher:

Making money on the web became more important to me a few years ago, when the economy tanked and I had to close my small business..

I have been publishing websites for over ten years. I began to focus on making money from those websites.

I now own over 100 domain names and publish websites for perhaps half of them. My monthly revenue is modest (generally in the $1,000 per month range) but it's growing because I continually tweak my websites and look for alternate sources of revenue (advertisers).

It's been, and continues to be, a learning process for me. Information offered at this site is based on my own successes (and failures).

Making Money On The Web:

It Requires Time, Patience, Attention:
People don't get rich quickly on the web. You will probably start slowly and gradually grow. Sure, there are a few dramatic success stories out there, but they're the exception, not the rule.

To grow, you'll have to pay attention to the traffic to your website--where they come from and what they searched for to get there. Knowing what they're looking for can help you fine-tune your site.

Different Ways To Make Money On The Web:
You can sell merchandise at your website. You can publish interesting content and make money from ads on your website. You can sell stuff at e-bay. And you can find places that promise to set up a turn-key website for you -- all built and ready to go, but be sure to read the fine print and find out if they charge minimum fees to you (I generally don't recommend these turnkey operations).

Payments May Be Delayed:
If you earn advertising revenue, it may be 30 days or more before you receive it, so take that into account if you plan to buy advertising or materials..

Marketing Is Key:
Your objective is to get as many people as possible to visit your website. Some of them are discussed at the "marketing" section of the What To Do page.

Beware Of The Scammers:

The Web Is Full Of Scammers:
You can find many sites promising to show you how to make lots of money. If it sounds like a carnival barker or a snake oil salesman, it probably is.

You'll also get e-mails from people telling you they can optimize your website and bring more traffic to your site. It might work, but it might not. I've gotten hundreds of such e-mails from people in India and other countries. Learn a bit about SEO (search engine optimization) and you can probably improve your site's search engine placment yourself.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization):

SEO is all about getting your website to appear on the first one or two pages of a Google search. Most people don't go beyond 2-5 pages of search results.
SEO is not rocket science.

Think of one or two key words or phrases about your website.
Incorporate those keywords in:
  - Website tite
  - "Content" metatag
  - "Keywords" metatag
  - The first few hundred words of text (include the
          keywords or phrases several times)
  - "alt" tags for pictures

Links to your site:
   - Your search engine placement will improve with
more links to your site. Some people do link exchanges
with other sites. Include a link at forums, blogs, and
social media sites (but don't do it too much and
      make yourself a spammer!).

Monitor your web log. Hopefully, it shows you keywords people used to find your site. Pay attention to what they searched for and adjust your keywords as necessary.
