Can you make money on the web?
Sure! But it may take time to make much money on the web.

I have been publishing websites for years and began trying to make money from my websites about two years ago.

There are a lot of "get rich on the web" sites out there. Don't believe them. It takes some time and effort. But you can make money on the web. How much you make depends on a number of factors.

Quick Tips:

Blogs Don't Make Money:
You'll read success stories about a few people who hit a gold mine with a blog. There are a couple of "Mom blogs", an "Apple" blog, and a medical blog I've read about which bring in a lot of money. But those are the exceptions.

In order to make money from a blog, you've got to have very high traffic (lots of visitors). We're talking about numbers like 100,000 visits per day. Blogging about your life or things that make you happy is not going to bring in much money.

Forget Classifieds & Real Estate:
There are countless classified ad sites online, and you are NOT going to create another craigslist. It's the same thing with real estate.

Forget The Ready-To-Go Stores:
There are a number of places which have web-based storefronts already set up and ready to sell stuff they provide. They promote it as "let us do all the work". Many of these places have minimum startup fees or minimum monthly fees. Profit margins may be low, and you may end up spending more on advertising than you make with the site.

The Money Is In The Niches:
Websites devoted to specific topics or industries or occupations are probably your best bet for attracting traffic and generating ad revenue. There's less competition. If you provide quality content, you will attract repeat visitors.

Bring Visitors Back:
If you can, offer something which will bring people back to visit your site. Fresh content, regular updates, and customer interaction can help. So can sending an e-mailed newsletter to site visitors. Include a link to your site in the newsletter. Newsletters with large numbers of subscribers can also provide ad revenue.

Do Your Own Advertising:
Using a web medium to advertise your site can bring in more traffic. Google adwords allows you to set spending limits on your ads. Or you can use an affiliate program to pay for clicks or purchases at your site.

Optimize Your Site For Search Engines:
If you're not familiar with SEO (Search Engine Optimization), do yourself a favor and learn the basics. Good placement at search engines will bring in traffic. Beware of people who send you e-mails offering to do SEO for you, for a fee. Some of them are scammers.
